Sketching Workshop with: Life Skills for Middle School (Ages 12–14)

In May 2025, I completed a 10-week Certified Teaching Artist (CTA) program led by Elizabeth Palmisano, Director of Art Beyond. Elizabeth is an award-winning public artist and educator with over 20 years of experience, and it was a great opportunity to learn directly from her.
For my final assignment, I taught a group of middle school students. I’ve taught kids before, but this was my first time with this age group—and such a large group—so I was a little nervous.
We spent about 1.5 hours outside doing observation drawing using ink + watercolor, the materials provided by the Infusion Fund. It was a hot day, but we found some shade and made it work.
I really enjoyed the experience and would love to keep working with children in the future. I’m also proud to be part of the first group of 10 artists to earn the official CTA certification through Art Beyond!
